THE BUSINESS SURVEY Leica Introduces Viva Series GNSS System Leica Geosystems of Karlsruhe Germany has introduced what it considers a comprehensive surveying sytem Leica Viva The Viva system includes total stations GNSS receivers controllers and onboard software for the professional surveyor Its makers say the new product suite is more ergonomic while being easier and more intuitive to use than previous Leica products From integrated to modular solutions Leica says that Viva GNSS provides a complete range of GNSS and TPS solutions that use its SmartStation and SmartPole so fewer set ups are required Leica Viva GNSS includes the GS10 and GS15 receivers which are designed for surveying and construction tasks whether mounted on a pole or on a car or boat The receivers have exchangeable communication devices for field base stations and RTK rovers with removable SIM cards built in for GS15 An integrated web server aids configuring the logging of Leica or RINEX raw data and measuring with a single press of a button in the field Also part of the Viva system is the TPS total station which combines sensors for angles distances drives and an automated prism search Its equipped with the companys PinPoint EDM which provides users with optimal balance of range beam visibility laser dot size and measurement time the makers say Field Controllers The Leica CS10 and CS15 are new rugged field controllers that can be used for both GNSS measurements and oneperson surveying with total stations Both have VGA color touchscreen displays The controllers allow for easy equipment setup with Leicas Snap Go connection system Long range secure and fast wireless connectivity to total stations and GNSS are now supported by the new Leica intenna technology which integrates the total station communication antenna into the controller housing The controllers have an integrated 2 megapixel camera for field documentation and support a wide range of data storage and transfer capabilities such as wireless LAN USB Bluetooth and CF SD cards SmartWorx Viva This onboard software includes wizards to easily connect the controller to Leica Viva total stations and to set up a total station guided by clear graphics and step bystep descriptions to minimize training Users can choose between the basic version Leica SmartWorx Viva LT with selected functionality or Leica SmartWorx Viva with enhanced functionality SmartWorx Viva allows users to transfer files to and from the office using a field to office connection Leica MyWorld is a new web portal through which customers can view detailed information about their products check the status of their instrument repair at an authorized service center and update software as well as access the latest documentation and training material EVENTS p THE GS15 on a pole with the CS10 receiver 2010 International Technical Meeting January 25 27 2010 San Diego California www ion org meetings itm2010cfa cfm Navigation Behind Closed Doors Challenges of Indoor and Urban Positioning covers the future of indoor navigation technology challenges for first responders urban canyon navigation and underground navigation Munich Satellite Navigation Summit 2010 March 10 11 2010 Munich Germany www munich satellite navigation summit org The summit features high ranking worldwide speakers from industry science and governments on the directions of satellite navigation systems GPS World editor Alan Cameron speaks on a panel CERGAL 2010 International Symposium on Certification of GNSS Systems Services April 28 29 2010 Rostock Germany www munich satellite navigation summit org Organized by the German Institute of Navigation and GZVB e V GAUSS CERGAL 2010 focuses on the qualification and certification for mission and safety critical applications for satnav systems such as GPS EGNOS and Galileo Special focus is on maritime and inland waterways applications and GNSS testing infrastructure More events online www gpsworld com events GPS World December 2009 www gpsworld com 18
