Industry news and developments GPS Galileo GLONASS THE SURVEY Leica Launches Nova Measurement System At a media event held during the HXGN Live Conference in Las Vegas June 4 Leica Geosystems introduced several new products The highlight of the event was presentation of Leica Nova and the Leica Nova MS50 MultiStation The Leica Nova measurement solution is designed to provide users with a complete and seamless workflow Leica Geosystems said It integrates advanced measurement technology modern and intuitive field software intelligent office software and Leicas services to give users the ability to make faster smarter decisions across a range of applications The flagship of the new solution is the Leica Nova MS50 MultiStation which combines scanning total station imaging and GNSS positioning in one instrument to deliver fast and reliable results Leica Nova uses advanced measuring technology that provides accuracy PRECISION 3D SCANNING extensive and precise total station capabilities digital imagery and GNSS connectivity are brought together in the Leica Nova MS50 MultiStation and quality yet is easy to use for an unprecedented range of applications Leica said Whether users measure objects on a construction site quickly calculate volumes monitor a dam or a bridge capture an accident scene with digital imaging or scan a façade Leica Nova integrates all these capabilities in one compact flexible solution The Leica Nova MS50 MultiStation combines every significant measuring technology in one device for the first time Leica said The new mergeTEC technology fuses hardware capabilities with comprehensive datamanagement solutions Images are synchronized with scans and scans are tied into total station measurements making it easy to manage complex 3D data Leica said The Leica Nova MS50 also integrates 3D point cloud measurements into regular survey workflows Also announced were the Leica Nova TS50 high precision total station and Nova TM50 monitoring station THE LEICA MEDIA EVENT at the HXGN Live Conference in Las Vegas June 4 INDOOR POSITIONING OS Agnostic Indoor Location Software Offered by Trusted Positioning Trusted Positioning has released the Trusted Portable Navigator T PN indoor location software Available for any operating system this mobile embedded software allows mobile users to navigate shopping centers airports and subway stations No additional hardware or infrastructure required The T PN combines the use of existing smartphone motion sensors with wireless updates such as Wi Fi and GNSS for a complete solution with no extra hardware needed T PN also needs no additional infrastructure Trusted Positioning said This enables a consumer to navigate through an environment with no existing navigation technology T PN integrates with existing sensors such as Wi Fi and GPS when available and utilizes significantly less power than either GPS or Wi Fi positioning the company said The company reports that accurate positioning can be maintained while the phone is swinging in a hand a call is answered the phone is in a pocket or purse or the consumer is texting GPS World July 2013 www gpsworld com 16
